Berry Crisp Ingredients
To make this berry crisp with mixed frozen berries, you'll need the following ingredients:
- Frozen berries: I used frozen raspberries and frozen blueberries to make this berry crisp. But you can use a pre-mixed bag of frozen berries or a combination of other types of berries.
- Brown sugar: You'll need brown sugar for the filling and the topping. I'd highly recommend sticking with brown sugar as it yields different results than white sugar or other sweeteners.
- Rolled oats: You'll also need rolled oats for a crunchy and crumbly topping that tastes great!
- Almond flour: This recipe uses almond flour instead of all-purpose flour so that anyone on a gluten-free diet can enjoy it, too. Plus, almond flour gives this berry crisp a slightly nutty flavor that is really delicious.
- Butter: Butter is used for the topping. You'll have to melt the butter for this recipe. Just make sure that the butter is just melted, it shouldn't be heated to high temperatures.
- Cornstarch: Cornstarch is needed to make the filling less runny. So be sure to have some on hand when you make this berry crisp!
- Cinnamon: Cinnamon is used to add extra flavor to the topping. I'd highly recommend using it.
- Vanilla extract: You'll also need vanilla extract for the topping to add flavor and depth.

Tips & Notes
- You can use the berries while still frozen. There is no need to wait until the berries have thawed. The cornstarch binds a lot of the liquid and leaves just the right amount of delicious berry juice.
- If you prefer fresh berries, feel free to use them. This recipe works either way! Frozen berries are a cheaper and more convenient option, while fresh berries tend to be sweeter. Pick the one you like to make this recipe.
- Feel free to pick the types of berries you like most. I used blueberries and raspberries as they are my favorites and great for a crisp. Or simply use a bag of frozen mixed berries.
- Butter should be heated in a microwave until it melts. If it's heated for too long, it will be very runny, and shaping topping chunks is going to be very hard. So be sure to only melt it.
- The filling is slightly tangy, so feel free to use more sugar to cut some of the acidity. I don't mind a bit of acidity as the topping and ice cream are already quite sweet. But if you don't like sour foods, you may want to add a little more brown sugar to the filling.
How to serve this mixed berry crisp with frozen berries
- Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of your serving. This is probably my favorite way to enjoy any type of crisp. The melty vanilla ice cream tastes just amazing with the crumbly topping and fruity filling!
- Serve the berry crisp over some Greek yogurt. If you love Greek yogurt with fruits and granola, then this may be a delicious combination for you! Greek yogurt tastes really great with the filling and topping.
- Add some whipped cream to the berry crisp. Whipped cream always tastes great with crisps and cobblers.
